Sustain Services deliver Energy Saving Solutions for Retail and Industry, using our skill base we specialise in delivering energy project packages which produce rapid return on investment. We concentrate on delivering energy saving solutions within the built environment, which have zero impact on the ongoing use of the facility. With over 40 years experience of energy efficiency in large organisations, we are well placed to offer you solutions and implement them successfully.

Sustain Services offer a parallel measurement service and we can guarantee return on investment delivering a good return for our clients and the environment.

  • Flanged stop end before insulation
Flanged stop end before insulation. The next images show the heat loss and inefficiency of the stop end
  • Flanged stop end before insulation
Thermographic image of the flanged stop end before insulation - notice the heat loss is substantial
  • Flanged stop end after insulation
This is the image of the flanged stop end after insulation has taken place.

Sustain Services are working with Tescos to help deliver their published commitments on energy saving.

Tesco’s is one of Sustains largest clients, as a tier 1 supplier, Sustain are working with the energy and sustainability teams to deliver innovative, low carbon and energy reduction schemes throughout Tesco’s existing estate and new build program.

Working with Tesco’s since 2007, Sustain have been responsible for delivering electricity and gas saving measures throughout Tesco’s estate, via projects as varied as:

  • Solar Thermal
  • Solar Photovoltaics (PV)
  • Air Source Heat Pumps
  • Flue Heat Recovery

Sustain are currently developing further energy saving programs in partnership with Tescos, to build on our already successful relationship, that has so far delivered the following results:

Annual savings created by Sustain Energy Programs to date:

Energy Savings to Feb 2011: 41200 MWh

C02 Savings to Feb 2011: 8072 Tonnes

Equivalent to removing 3363 average sized cars from the road!

Sustain Services Limited have been working with Sainsburys over the recent years, culminating in the installation of one of the largest Solar Thermal installations to a retail site in the UK. Working with Sainsburys sustainability team, the system was installed onto a new build store in Gloucester, the store had all the correct attributes for a solar installation and the build was to embrace low carbon construction.

Gloucester Quays environmental features:

  • Over two years, the store will harvest enough rainwater to fill an Olympic sized swimming pool. The store will use this to flush all of the toilets
  • Solar thermal panels heat up to 100% of our hot water during the summer
  • The store aims to reduce mains water usage by 50% compared to other existing stores of this size built before 2006
  • Electricity reduction is a high priority in-store and measures have been taken in the design process to ensure maximum use of natural daylight
  • The floor to ceiling windows at the front of the store maximise natural light
  • Sainsburys have installed 140 sun pipes in the roof to allow natural light in and help save energy
  • The electric lights within the store are on automatic dimmers so less electricity will be used on brighter days
  • Stopped over 90% of the construction waste going to landfill by re-using it or recycling it
  • At night we pull down blinds over our fridges. This saves 5% energy per year, which is equivalent to making 2.5 million cups of tea
  • Extra secure cycle spaces have been installed to make it easier for customers to shop by bike, and the cyclepod is made from over 12,500 aluminium cans. By using recycled aluminium, cyclepods save the equivalent energy to power a TV for 600 hours
  • The store retrieves the cold air from our fridges and re-use it to keep the checkout area cool
  • LEDs which shine brighter in cold environments are also being used in the frozen food sections and the cold warehouse area behind the shop floor
  • Energy usage in store will be constantly monitored via web-based technology that will show how much energy is being consumed in each part of the store. This can automatically be adjusted if areas are using more than they require

Sustain Services have successfully delivered a bespoke solution to a number of stores that have historically used electricity to heat the water they use in store, utilising waste heat, Sustain designed, specified and installed the renewable hot water systems that incorporated the latest heat pump technologies. Working with the engineering team, the systems were fully monitored and 1st year results are on course to show a 60% energy use reduction.

Marks and Spencer’s “Plan A” was first published in 2007, this has been the blueprint for the company’s sustainability targets. Marks and Spencer have stated that they want to become the most sustainable retailer by 2015.

Sustain Services have worked as part of the Energy Team, providing whole Store programs targeting energy reduction. Sustain have delivered plant room insulation and flue heat recovery technologies as part of a multi disciplined approach to energy reduction measures on their own stores. Sustain continue to work with the team, providing bespoke energy solutions in each individual circumstance.

Sustain Services have been working with Ipswich Borough Council to reduce the emissions from their housing stock. Working with the Councils surveyors, we have carried out many cavity wall and loft insulation measures to countless properties. Sustain have been able to provide Ipswich Borough Council funding for all insulation measures, through our links with various fuel utilities under the Governments current CERT (Cabon Emissions Reduction Target) scheme, which ensures the local authority are getting best value and insulating the maximum numbers of properties for any available budget.

Sustain Services Ltd - Working with Newham CouncilSustain Services Ltd were selected by Newham Council to deliver insulation to 1840 homes as part of a 1.5 million pound project.

With the delivery of one of the first Social Housing Energy Savings Programme - SHESP - funded projects in the country, Newham Homes has embraced the opportunity to improve their housing stock and meet the needs of their community. The project team’s collaborative approach has facilitated a significant increase in the number of homes with cavity wall insulation, at no additional cost to the organisation. The ensuing benefits include improved energy efficiency, lower bills for residents and an overall decrease in the borough’s carbon footprint. Thanks to our existing work in the area, Sustain Services were able to deliver a cost effective home insulation energy program that maximised Newham Council's capital investment. The team’s dedication to achieving the programme resulted in the completion of 1200 properties by the end of the financial year.

Sustain Services Limited are currently working with Sport England to provide effective, demonstrable energy saving solutions that can be installed as a major cost, energy and emissions reduction program for many sporting venues. Energy is one of the highest budgets that many sports centers manage, frequently we are able to reduce this by meaningful amounts. Sustain have access to all routes of funding as well as private finance for larger schemes, meaning that many installations can be completed without any capital costs whre stakeholders will share the gains achieved.
